lock on thumbnails?

I can't figure out why I have locks in the upper left hand corner of all my thumbnail images.

I am viewing a CD on my desktop through photoshop CS.

The images themselves within a desktop folder have no locks, but after burning them, the thumbnails on the burned CD, viewing through Photoshop do.

Lately I've been burning images for clients and they haven't been able to view the images so maybe this is where the problem occurs?

Any thoughts/ideas would be much appreciated.

Re: lock on thumbnails?

They have locks because they are on a CD. A CD is 'read only', so you cannot change anything in these images and that is what the lock tells you.

Re: lock on thumbnails?

Thanks Johan.

That's what I thought but I've been having so many problems with clients not being able to read my CD's that I thought the lock may have something to do with it.

I guess it's safe to assum that this is a separate issue..

Re: lock on thumbnails?

CDs come in many flavors, -R, +R, -RW, +RW, etc. and many of the CD readers will not read all the formats. DVD is just as bad. Most computer CD readers are better at reading all of the formats, MOSTLY, but all bets are off when you try to use the standalone units that connect to your TV or even the internal ones.
You need to know which format your clients CD reader will read and then your CD writer must be set to burn that type of disk. Its a nightmare! I have a selection of CD and DVD blanks of several formats and three different CD, DVD writers so I can write to a specific format. I also use Nero, NTI, Ulead, and Adobe Encore as writer software.
Good luck working out your solution.
