Re: Does CS2 seem slow to you? (Mac)

A person on the Adobe Forums responded to me, and it seems to do the trick. Here is what I altered:

1. Enable "Bigger Tiles" plug-in, by going to:
Photoshop CS2\plug-ins\Adobe Photoshop Only\Extensions\Bigger Tiles
Remove the '~' before the plug-in name.

2. Reduce the cache levels to the default of 6.

3. Hide the info palette .

(I have no idea about the Info Pallette; I just did what the guy told me. You might turn things back on, one by one, and see if that kills the speed again, and if so, hit reverse).

Hmm, interesting, Bigger Tiles was already disabled on my machine. I wonder if it installs enabled if there is more than 1Gb RAM available on first install?

Oops, re-read the post and you ENabled it to get better performance. Please ignore my previous.

I enabled Bigger Tiles and have seen a small increase in speed for big file work, maybe a 15% reduction in timings. Thanks Mark

Nick

At first, it seemed like a great fix, but like you, after working now for another hour, it's only a small incremental fix. It's still slower than CS, with these big files. I'll keep searching for more information.

Re: Does CS2 seem slow to you? (Mac)

Have you noticed if it is mainly Mac people who are slowed down?

Given the aging nature and relatively low specs of the machine I am using, I am surprised to be seeing no speed problems with CS2, only a slight improvement. There must be a pattern.

I am currently spotting some 275Mb scans and quite frankly, I am having no problems at all with redraw, spot heal brush, dust and scratches filter and the clone tool. My scratch use goes up to about 1.7Gb which is well into scratch disc use but it seems fine and I am not known for my progress bar patience!

....... 80gig external FW drive, with it alloted as the scratch disk. Most of that drive is free. Thanks.

Mark,
how fast is that scratch disk? It might be slower than the internal S-ATA disk, that was used before.

You can use xbench, to test it.

Don't know about the Mac's , but with a Windows PC you cannot have an external drive as scratch disk because it will be too slow. But toher than that, I agree about CS2: it already starts with ACR where a low res presentation shows up prior to the final high res. Don't care for Bridge either.
