No, it does not currently do this. It is an often-requested feature however and we will consider adding it in the future.

Thanks for the tips Kirk. Pardon my ignorance. This makes a light of difference for my work flow.

We may add some form of cataloging in the future, but since you're a Mac OS X user, when Spotlight is available (Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger) you will be able to search your entire hard drive for meta data almost instantly. This doesn't help for offline media (well maybe it does work, only time will tell.)
