ACDsee vers 6 slowwwww

I have ACDsee 6.x and have problems with speed. When I change folders, and have 100 - 200 images in it, it takes about 1second per image to "regenerate" the thumbs and I cannot work until this is done. If I I'm looking for a photo and change folders, then go back, it again goes slowly through the image rebuild. Is version 7 better at this? Am I doing something wrong? I have tried updating the database and packing it, but it seems I cannot speed things up. I am very reluctant to go to version 7 as the company keeps saying the next version is faster and faster, but I just keep slowing down instead. Any suggestions?

Is there a forum of advanced ACDsee users?

Re: ACDsee vers 6 slowwwww

I have ACDSee 7 and it my main complaint. When I load an archive DVD with lots of images in it, it almost stops to a crawl. In normal use however, it performs ok on my computer.
Also, they are the champions in releasing new versions to suck money out of you at least once every year. I hate that ! And I hate it even more when I realize that the new version doesn't do much more for me.
I am presently evaluating iMatch and will most probably switch. However, don't get me wrong, ACDSee is not a bad program, far from that. It should satisfy most people.

Yes, Jules, they know how to get the bucks from you. Every upgrade promises more speed and every time, it just doesn't amount to much. In some ways it is faster but in others, it crawls. My computer is pretty damned speedy and dealing with files from the HD, one second per image is the speed. i let the thumbnails build and as long as I stay within that folder, it is very speedy. Leave the folder and come right back to it and you must indure the slow build of the thumbs again.

ACDsee makes it difficult to get support reqiring you to fill out piles of information just to get a simple question answered. I've complained many times but they still do it the same way and never solve the speed issue.

The program is so damned good otherwise. I'm looking at PhotoMechanic but it has a lot of quirks... The trial version is going to quit tomorrow and I've not had time to work withit to find smooth usage. Too bad.

Larry,

You can request another trial serial number from the Camerabits website when you know you'll have time to properly assess Photo Mechanic. Just like their applications, they're very user friendly .

Thanks for that tip. I'll plan some time next week and do it again. It really does seem like a good program. Different... just need some time sorting it out.

I had the same problem, I had a friend who had a laptop that would do 200 files in a third of the time it took me to get files open on my dell 3gig desktop, I upgraded and everything is fine
its probably worth upgrading or try to buy a new version on ebay or somewhere so you could try it
