Re: Annoying Photoshop Bug ?????

The file locking bug seems to have gone away in CS. Memory and CPU hogging are a different story. When Photoshop CS (Windows) starts up it uses 60-70MB of memory depending on the machine. I just finished a long editing session with files large enough to make the swap disk fly. I closed all files but left PS running. Immediately after closing the files, PS still held 1.4GB of memory (total PS memory allocation set to 1.75GB on this system). Half an hour later it released a bit, but claims 1.1GB for itself along with a CPU load bouncing between 5 and 9%. What PS is doing, I have no idea. Freeing up the memory it used is not on the list.

<<< I can't recall ever seeing this happen in six or so years on a mac.>>>

Yeah, Charles, I think we could make quite a list of things we didn't see when we were on Macs. Life certainly was a lot less complicated before I bought my first windows machine.

Re: Annoying Photoshop Bug ?????

Randy, Yes, I went to the "dark side" screaming and kicking.

With the matter at hand, yesterday I had some tifs open that I had just converted with Capture One.
I simply onened them up in PS (making no changes,) closed them and left PS running. Lo and behold I
could rename them. So thinking it was because no changes were made inside PS, I opened some up making some changes, and closing. Still leaving PS running I could rename them!

So it isn't a de facto PS thing or Windows thing that happens all the time. It must pertain to a certain chain of events leading up to the problem. Go figure!

Re: Annoying Photoshop Bug ?????

I think it has to do with a file name being on the recently used list in Photoshop. It doesn't seem consistent, though.

Re: Annoying Photoshop Bug ?????

Charles, I daily fought trying to rename files and folders after using PS. Now, if I'm doing PS work on a file after converting the raw from C1, I always open it, make a duplicate, and immediately close the original. Do all my work, then do a save as into another folder, with a slight change to the file name. I end up with three folders of images <RAW> <CONVERTED> AND <WORKING>.

As you might imagine, I continually struggle with storage issues!!
