Error Messages

I've just been scanning slides, and when trying to open a file in Photoshop this was the message I received; 'Could not open ... because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered.'

Also, a second message when trying to open some files I have previously opened 'Could not open...due to disk error'. It seems to be totally at random as most scans open without a problem. Could anyone enlighten me as to what this means? It's very frustrating.

Thanks

Re: Error Messages

File corruption I'm afraid Natt. Try opening on another machine if you can - vain hope, but sometimes it'll open on one and not another. Usually however, it's gone for good (in my experience anyway).

At the College I lecture at, we see it when students save on floppies (despite being told not to), and sometimes when they save onto an allocated area of the College Network.

Maybe someone else knows a fix?

Cheers and good luck.

Mike

Re: Error Messages

The weird thing is, I have just discovered they will still open in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer - though I don't think this is really of any use, but at least they're still there in some form, can I retrieve them?

Re: Error Messages

And they're all saved on the hard drive so I can't try another machine. I did burn some on to CD but they come up with the same error.

Re: Error Messages

I run into similar problems periodically. Try viewing the preview in Windows Picture and Fax viewer, "Right Click" the image and select "Open With-Photoshop". Not sure why but it usually works.

Re: Error Messages

The answer to this problem, after defragging to no avail, was to open them in Image Ready and resave.
