Fotostation or Photo Mechanic

I've been using Fotostation 4. Is Mechanic better and is it XP compatible or just Mac?

Re: Fotostation or Photo Mechanic

Hi

I've been using Fotostation 4.5 (a better product than FS 4 by the way) and Fotostation Pro (works the same as 4.5 just can have many more folders, with many more pictures) for two years now on XP and Win2K machines and it works very well. I tried all the similar products before FS, and preferred it. Things I am sure have moved on since but I've had no reason to keep up as Fotostation has worked well for me.

Fotostation keeps track of nearly 1 TB of images here over 4 PC's

Cheers

Douglas

Re: Fotostation or Photo Mechanic

Hi
I would have to agree fotostation 4.5 is a very good program and I use it with win2000 have not had any problems in 18 months, only thing I have is when i view pictures in fotostation they appear lighter than in photoshop, there may be settings to corect this but dont know where to find if anyone knows please tell me.

Re: Fotostation or Photo Mechanic

D30 user,

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but Photoshop displays accurate colour because it can read colour profiles. FotoStation 4.5 does not read colour profiles. Windows assumes images are sRGB and have a gamma of 2.2, if your images are AdobeRGB FotoStation and Photoshop won't match colour.

However if you go File -> Calibrate Display under the Windows version of FotoStation 4.5 you should see a crude gamma utility similar to Photoshop gamma. This will bring FotoStation and Photoshop closer.
