Early 1900's color photos from Russia - Very interesting

This link is to a Newsweek item on a Russian 1900's photographer who captured hundreds of images in B&W using 3 filters to create perfect color images. Since these were shot in B&W using filters, the original colors are faithfully captured and have endured without fading.

The article links to the original Library of Congress archives for further viewing of more images and the original B&W photos. Worth a view.

Thank you for sharing. That was very much the milieu of my paternal grandparents and great-grand parents. Quite interesting to see in color.

Re: Early 1900's color photos from Russia - Very interesting

When you think about it, he had to have envisioned the future that color prints would someday be possible. Fantastic insight.

With all of the multi millions of cameras we have today, when we look back in history, it's the everyday simpler images that most of us find so compelling. Sad to say that few of us pay much attention to capturing those images today for preservation centuries from now.

A simple shot of an ugly 16 lane turnpike at rush hour congested with big cars and transports might be astonishing to future generations but is considered 'garbage' today. We have the tools needed to capture that history but few of us us them wisely for that purpose (including me).
