Apathy?

In january of this year, there was a public "survey" (really only a single, simple question) conducted by the Melbourne Age newspaper:

Abuse of power : Do you think police warnings to photographers are an abuse of power?

Yes - 0%
No - 0%
Total Votes: 0 Poll date: 18/01/06

Now, it could simply be that people (like me) didn't see the original survey post. But you'd think a few folks would have... but NOBODY voted either way. Maybe, in the grand scheme of things, photographers just don't matter....

[More recent "high profile" topics have resulted in more than 2000 votes]

Maybe there's a local context/history that I'm missing here, but my reaction would be "huh?" and move on. WTF are they asking? What warnings? About what?

Re: Apathy?

Yeah, you're right - there was a local context:

The Story

and the wording was fairly obscure... but still, I figured that at least a couple of Joe Public would have responded. Given the importance of the photographic image in the media, it surprised me that no-one had a point of view on the matter. There you go... no big deal... just thought I'd share.

Re: Apathy?

Well actually that was an issue here in the states too a while back and discussed at length on some of the photo boards. But I think the general public just doesn't grok why a anyone would want to take "industrial" pictures rather than dogs, wives, and kids so it's a non-issue to them.

Re: Apathy?

and I am a fan of Heinlein.....

My favorite quote from him goes something like

"Women and cats will do as they please, men and dogs need to relax and get used to the idea"
