I couldn't agree more. He is a hero of mine not just for his stunning photography but for a life lived well and with dignity.
We had a moment of silence for Gordon at a seminar in NYC on the day he died. It was hosted by Vincent Laforet of the NY Times. It seemed very fitting that we were looking at the beautiful and haunting (Katrina coverage) work of a current generation photojournalist on this sad day.
Gordon Parks overcame many obstacles to attain his staus as a modern Renaissance Man with talents in so many areas. When I hear the students I have mentored say "I can't" to a simple task, I tell them to be like Gordon Parks and say, "I can".
