I am curious to know the general charge rate for photographing upper-end dance groups and theatre productions in the major cultural centres of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver - for example, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Toronto Dance Studio, Les Grandes, etc. or even UofT / UBC and similar groups. Do the charges vary depending upon the size (i.e. possible ability to pay)? What strategy is used to determine this possibly sliding rate?
Is it common to have a shooting rate and a separate print rate (at what charges)? Do you provide a CD with all images for their general use with a "larger" single overall cost? If you produce a CD that documents the entire production, what would your charge be? Would this CD be charged for in addition to a shooting fee? Do you have different charges for newspaper, brochure, and poster images?
Is it common to shoot photocalls? tech runs? final dress rehearsal? in-studio setup shots? Is this dependent upon the dance/theatre/music group? Do you offer a "bundle price" for everything or do you separate the charges.
How do you handle many groups request (demand) that you are not allowed to use an image for your own benifit (such as web page or art gallery display of "your photographic skills")? Would you shoot such a production if they refuse to grant you reasonable re-use of images for your self-promotion?
Any such business related help would be apprecitated.
