What happens if the laptop dies

soon to shoot in Dominican Rep, India, Myanmar, Dacca and have had
great luck so far with D100's and a Mac G3 to burn cds for data saving.
then i got to thinking what if the G3 dies and i am in nowheres land?
so i bought Roadstor by micro solutions out of panic. Then i figured out how am i gonna
view the burned cd ( no need for a computer) to see if the burn was
successful if i have no TV no PC no VCR?
i couldnt know if the thing worked and confidence level would not be high.
what do you all do if your pc dies and you are shooting with everything else
going well?
buy more memory cards??

thanks

Re: What happens if the laptop dies

get a memory storage
I would have said get an Archos, but Archos are giving me so much gawddarned bovine excretion about why it is taking them 6 months and 4 units to get me one that actually works for longer than a week that I cannot in good faith say a single civil word about them.

Re: What happens if the laptop dies

When in the field, I have an external firewire HD where I back-up my shots every day before I burn data DVDs when I'm back to the office. It should be very (yes very) bad luck if 2 HD (internal + external) fails in the same time...

Hi Glenn,
I guess I'm luckier than Kara as I have an Archos that works well! I would recommend one. The plus side is that you can check your images have transferred OK by looking at previews (I think its only jpegs that you can actually see), and you can connect it to your laptop to backup the images too.

Re: What happens if the laptop dies

well, I guess I've got some peace of mind for the shots done (thanks to the backup)...
Now for the shots to come I rely on the 4 Microdrives (moreless 600 1Ds raw files, that is enough for one day shooting), but then I'm done...
Oh! gosh! I never realised that! you gonna be my nightmare!
I thought that with 2 HD, 2 ext card readers (1 USB and 1 Firewire), 2 camera batteries, 2 batteries I could feel safe...
Yes I knew I do not have a second 1Ds, I'm aware this is my weakness, but a second laptop? you're right...
I just can't imagine bringing my "old" Ibook, all this gear is too heavy for travellin'

I admit I got to count with my little star upthere...
