Re: What happens if the laptop dies

Another idea.

Several years ago I bought a little hard disk device that slotted into the PCMIA slot of my laptop and I use it every week to do a backup.

I can't remember the brand and I'm at my office away from the laptop. It came with some bespoke software so that it did an automatic 'incremental' backup each time it was slotted into the laptop.

It also has some recovery disks (I think they are floppies) to enable you to recover the machine on which the files were originally. However, as it is simply a removable hard disk you can look at with Windows Explorer and this is probably the way you'd work if your laptop died and you had to buy another one from the nearest shop.

I've never taken it away with me - but for anyone with the original poster's concerned this is another solution.
