James Nachtwey Time Magazine Cover

Does anyone know if it was shot on film or digital?
That was one of the greatest covers I've ever seen!

I was told,by someone that should know,that the cover,as well as the half dozen or so double page spreads inside the
magazine,was shot with the Canon 1Ds.
I would like to know the workflow (whether supplied by Nachtwey or performed by Time) that was involved in getting these
images to print .
