Fees for Photos

I expect to be approached shortly by Conde Naste to supply them with a couple photos I took on spec in California, to be printed in their next issue. Does anyone know if they have a standard fee they pay for material of this sort, or if there is an industry standard that applies?

Thanks.

Stephen Haynes

Re: Fees for Photos

Check out a copy of the '2003 Photographer's Market' if they are not listed look for similar organizations. If they are listed they will quote a range that they typically pay. I have found over the last en years that most listings in the PM quote about 15% lower than their REAL rates.

Good Luck,

Steve

Re: Fees for Photos

A better bet would be to check the estimator over at editorialphoto.com.

Obviously, the fee should depend on size and usage. Make sure you have your paperwork in order before you submit your images abd you clearly specify what rights your selling.

EP has a wealth of info, including sample contracts and delivery memos.

Re: Fees for Photos

I find the http://photographersindex.com/stockprice.htm better then the editorial photo estimator, which sometimes makes wierd calculations and sometimes its a pain to get the advertising rate info from photo editors who generally have no clue. I usually ask for the high price and usually get it or close to it. Blumenfeld.com
