Re: Any golfers in the mix? Question about camera bags

I understand completely, my golf bag has an Izzo double strap and it works very well. I have tried to find a way of attaching the Izzo to a Domke J1, without success but a photographer that I see around London has a padded waist/hip belt on his Domke that he does up when wanting to carry the bag for a distance. It fits on the two D'rings on his bag and seems to do a good job. I'm not sure what brand the belt is, but if I see him in the next few days I'll ask.

Neil.

Re: Any golfers in the mix? Question about camera bags

Scott;

Here's another thought in a different direction.

Have you ever considered a vest? I know they are not the greatest looking things in the world and take a little getting used to, but I would not go out on assignment without mine. I started using a vest 10 years ago, tried switching to back packs and waist packs, but always go back to the vest.

My shoulders never start to burn, everything is right there within reach, no zippers to worry about, I carry rain gear in it a bottle of water in the back pocket plus all the gear that I am not caring around my neck. And the weight is evenly distributed.

Since you are in Minnesota you would probably want to do the same thing I did. Get one large enough to fit over your parka.

There is not one situation I have been in during the last 10 years where a vest got in the way or became a nuisance.

Just something to think about.

Take care,

Jan

Any golfers in the mix? Question about camera bags

When on assignment I usually carry a D1h, 80-200 2.8, 17-35 2.8, sb28 flash, quantumb turbo battery and sometimes even a 300 f4 all in my Domke press (shoulder strap) bag.

If I'm standing for a good period of the day my bag starts to get awful heavy on my shoulder. I was wondering if anyone knows of a company that offeres a second shoulder strap (commonly seen on golf bags) design.

If you play or watch golf I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. You don't always have to use it (when you are needing to get in and out of your bag frequently) but when you can't put your bag down and you don't need to get at it a backpack style strap would be nice.

Anyone follow what I'm talking about?

scott

I too have gone to a vest and don't want to go back. I have an xtrahand vest. http://www.vestedinterest.com/

They are a little pricey but if you don't like what you see then they will make what you want. I have mine sized to fit over a parka.

or.... go for a waistpack, I'd HIGHLY recommend the Mountainsmith Tour, and add a Tamrac case for the 80-200, will clip right on the waist belt. Mine has been wonderful on my back since I gave up my domke bag. Lots of straps and pockets to put stuff in and clip things on.

Ditto on the waist/hip pack. With a vest or any other shoulder strap, the weight is still on the shoudlers and spine. The key is to get it off the shoulders and onto the waist.

Ever see a serious backpacker without a waist strap? Those guys carry 100+ lbs of crap and the majority of the weight sits on their hips - the shoulder straps do little more than hold the pack upright.

Phew - My health minor finally paid off.

Re: Any golfers in the mix? Question about camera bags

The extra strap you are referring too is available at golf shops like Edwin Watts, Golfsmith and others. I purchased one several years ago for my golf bag and now that you mention it. I am going to try it on my camera bag. I am not sure on the name of the strap, but it connects to my golf bags handle and really helps.
Good luck,
