March 29, 2007 – The Future of The Video Journal
The
Luminous Landscape Video Journal has now been in existence for more than five years, and we will soon be publishing our 16th issue.
Back in 2001 we asked readers of they would prefer delivery on VHS or DVD. At the time VHS was still the dominant format. Most people wanted DVD, and the fate of VHS is now well known.
We are now at a crossroads again. The packaging and mailing costs of DVDs has increased year after year, and postal delivery service world-wide has deteriorated, especially due to security concerns. No one wants to wait weeks for the latest issue, and theft and losses in the mail have become all too common.
Therefore while individual DVDs will continue to be available, we no longer offer subscription renewals or new multi-issue subscriptions. The reason is that we are emphasising and encouraging
Download Video. Issue #15 is currently available for download, and all back issue will be online soon as well.
While we anticipate the continuation of distribution on DVD for the near term, we also hope to phase out the physical distribution of DVDs within a year or two. The download product
seems very popular and its quality is very good so we believe most viewers will be pleased with this decision.
For existing subscribers we would be delighted to convert your subscription to Download Video (both HiRes and iPod versions). In fact we plan to announce an offer to subscribers to encourage just that; an offer which we believe is quite advantageous to subscribers. Basically you will get 2 issues of
LLVJ Download Video for every paid up DVD. You'll be hearing more about this offer shortly.
