This summer’s event presents two concurrent exhibitions:

ANTARCTICA
This work represents the fulfillment of the artist’s childhood dream to visit Antarctica. In 2006 he explored the Antarctic peninsula for ten days on a retro-fitted Russian research vessel with 4 colleagues while conducting a workshop for 50 photographers. The harsh yet stunningly beautiful environment contains many of the themes that naturally occur in Caponigro’s work - water resources, wastelands, global warming, land use, and our interconnectedness to remote ecosystems . John Paul processed this body of work on location. It marks a pivotal moment in his career. He will return to Antarctica in 2007. Read JP’s
statement on his visit to Antarctica.

Antartica XXI EXHALATION
Portraying nature as a living temple, Exhalation contains some of Caponigro’s most transcendental work. Caponigro echoes Thoreau, “If ‘In Wildness is the preservation of the World, then it is our preservation, for we are the world. Contemporary dialog on conservation needs to move beyond saving it (Nature) to include saving us. It is us. We are it. We are inseparable.” Symmetry in Caponigro’s work has a trifold function; Rorschachs offer mirrors for self-reflection; mandalas become tools for focussed contemplation; geometries suggest a sacred living spirit courses through all of creation.
