A Full Moonset

I got up particularly early last week and captured the full moon setting over the lake behind our house just as the sky was beginning to lighten slightly. These are 8 second shots at ISO 400, Canon EOS-40D with 28-135 lens, f/5.6.

I love night shots, and I'm wondering if you find these interesting? Or just another couple of snapshots?

Honest, this is a moonset, not a sunset.

Re: A Full Moonset

Noel, I love them too, but don't take enough of them.

I think what I like about them is that they look close enough to natural light but something about them catches the eye of observant viewers, and they have a little 'what's going on there' thought happen. I took some not far away from the desert shot I posted here the other day link and they're quite surreal. Biggest issue is long exposure and moving foliage which is evident but not too bad in your shots.

Of yours, #2 is the one I'd pick - better colour and interesting detail.

Re: A Full Moonset

Thanks, Mike, that's exactly the look I am going for here. Thanks especially for letting me know which you like better.

One thing I might try to take these to a higher level is that I might try to transplant some detail into the moon from another image. That will have to be done very subtly to retain the "almost looks natural" appearance.
