Nice job bringing out the colors in the first, and it's pretty neat what you did with the heron shot. You are definitely "thinking outside the box" here!

Thanks. I couldn't come up with an idea for the first one, so I just did it straight.

Re: Bird Photo Processing Challenge

Here are my submissions. One is processed in ACR 4.5 with large emphasis on the clarity slider. The other is processed with Auto3D, a shareware program that converts 2D images into 3D anaglyphs (You will need red-blue glasses to see the 3D effect).

Re: Bird Photo Processing Challenge

I didn't do too much special to these images, outside of process them for best appearance (i.e., no "head sticking out of frame" shots, though that was very creative!). I like what you've both done; I love lots of color and I sometimes get hit with comments from others that I have oversaturated my photos. 'Course my most famous photo to date is my Hypersaturated Moon image.

Anyway, here are my two processes. Both opened in Photoshop Camera Raw at an upsampled resolution, processed some at the highest resolution, fractal sharpened, and reduced in size for posting.

Notable things done: A bit of minor cloning to remove some minor distracting elements, a little bit of dodging to bring up the dark face in the Moorhen and make it seem more 3D, selective noise reduction on the backgrounds for a creamy smoothness and enhancemenet of 3D feel, selective local contrast enhancement to increase the appearance of feather detail.

Click on these to see higher resolution versions.

Re: Bird Photo Processing Challenge

Noel,

I like strong bold color and tend to over-saturate most of my images. I have calibrated/profiled monitors and it seems to me that the white balance is off in your first bird image. The dark areas take on a blue tint. I assume the bird is black and based my color correction on that for my submission. I probably went to far in the other direction

Has anyone been able to find a pair of red-blue glasses? The red has to be on the left side for the 3D effect to work. The program does a decent job of making a 3D image out of a 2D. I have always been a 3D buff and decided to take your challenge literally. It was fun!

Re: Bird Photo Processing Challenge

I had the advantage of being there. The bird was slightly bluish in person; just subtly so. The AWB color in the embedded JPEG preview is right on. Your image comes off as somewhat too yellow from where I sit.

I don't have red/green glasses, but I'd love to see the image in 3D. Any way to make left and right images to view with crossed eyes?

Not with this program, it just produces anaglyphs.

Auto3D screenshot and download at SnapFiles.com
