So no new Photo Contests?

Didn't Drew appoint a Photo Contest organiser because the workload had gotten to him and the contests were getting erratic?

I check back in the photo contests forum every few weeks to see if there is a new contest running yet, but it looks like the area is deserted. As you can see, there has been no contest since November.

It's not that I really mind, there are plenty of other photo contests on the net, but it would be good for whoever is supposed to be running them to announce that there will be no new contests, and turn the lights off as they leave...

Mike.

Re: So no new Photo Contests?

Hi Mike,

I like the contests too. Wish I could enter.

Anyhoo. I haven't had any different prizes to offer lately. Let's start Feb. off right now. We can play for a Lifetime Membership, Stock Photo Site Membership or Color Parrot. What's your call?

Hi Drew,

I reckon the Color Parrot would be good, but maybe give a choice of any of the three to the winner in case they already have something

Mike,

I am the Monthly Photo Contest Moderator, with the responsibility of insuring that the entries are posted are appropriate and timely. I also regulate the timeframe and facilitate the voting.

This is not my forum and I do not initiate the contests. Drew has informed me that the problem lies with getting a sponsor for the monthly prize. I would also like to note that the November Photo Contest had only two entries. With waning interest, I am assuming that it was not one of Drew's priorities.

With that said, I also love photo contests and would very much like to see the Monthly Photo Contest resumed with or without a prize. In the past the contest has consisted of a Wedding/Portrait category as well as a General category.

I would like to propose a theme based category that would change each month to spark the interests of those who like a challenge.

Jerry

Re: So no new Photo Contests?

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the clarification.

Re Prizes. It's nice to get a prize, but I don't think it needs to be something big or valuable. If the forum software has a reputation points system, (as most do these days) maybe points could be awarded for entering and winning the contest (eg. get 1 point for entering, and 10 points for winning or something like that) Display the user's reputation and have a bit of fun with the status level descriptions...

Variety is the spice of life. A theme is a good idea, but not for every contest. For starters, it gets hard to dream up new themes after a while without them getting repetitive, and it won't work for all users who might enter something in an open contest, but who might not have time to take a theme shot.

just my 2c

Mike.

Re: So no new Photo Contests?

In the most recent contests, I really didn't have anything I considered worthy, having shot all my good stuff on the previous contests. A themed contest would preclude an entry if I didn't have anything appropriate for the theme. For instance, I've only shot a few weddings, so I don't have much there to draw from.

I guess it would depend on what the theme was in any given instance.

Re: So no new Photo Contests?

Sounds good. Themed and/ or reputation system.

We have a reputation system it is just turned off. The idea of a reputation system is great, however, some people were being spiteful with it. I would be willing to give it another try if people want it turned back on.
