Sony announces new FF CMOS chip

Read em & weep. Sony announces development of 35mm CMOS sensor: Digital Photography Review

More chips = more competition = cheaper prices = Uncle Fred has a better camera than you.

Glass half empty or half full??? End of the day, it's half full.

Call me when it's in a shipping product.

Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip

It's a good thing, but it will be meaningful, and causing price reductions, once it's shipping. I look forward to that day.

I think you will see this sensor in the D3x first.

Really? You think Sony will not try to capitalize on it with their new camera line?

You may be right, depending on how they feel about their relationship with Nikon.

Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip

I'd bet it will appear in both, but Nikon first. Sony doesn't have the market share for the pro market to support that product yet. Sony can make more money selling it to Nikon. Sony
will make there own camera based on this chip or similar but only once they have excess capacity and they've improved the yields. Let Nikon pay for the poor yields which will probably come with the first year of production.

Interesting.
12 bit not 14...not gonna be competitive in IQ with even a 40D.

24mp...they got lenses for that? Canon claimed issues with being able to resolve well enough for 21mp with their lenses, so they updated the 14, 85 and 16-35.
