| | | Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip I think we have to remember that Nikon, who has been using Sony chips has been running close to Canon in IQ. That's a debate that will prolly never be settled, but the two have been close or Canon would have all the business. Canon uses Canon sensors, Nikon uses Sony sensors. Point is I think Sony is fully capable of coming up with comparable sensors? Sure seems that way.
Sony is coming out with a FULL line of DSLR'S, just like Canon and Nikon. Looks like it will be A100, A200 {may replace 100?}. A300, A350, A700, and FF A1000? Looks like a full line to me.
I am sure the "proof will be in the pudding". If the cameras don't perform, they will fall behind. However I see definite chance that there just might be three "major players" in the future.
You heard it first right here. | | Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip

| | | Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip To further reinforce my projections I have found out that Sony indeed intends to use the new 25mp chip in their very own F/F DSLR, promised in 2008. It is to have a 3.5" LCD with "at least 1mp resolution".
A battery pack is now available for the 100, 200, 300, 350. A new flash system is also due for release this year.
A top end lens, Carl Ziess designed autofocus 24 -70 F/2.8 with ultra sonic motor is also on the way.
I would say that Sony has "stolen" the PMA show?
Right now I am thinking about the A350 / Ziess 27-70 for my flower photography?
Lots to look forward to this year. | | Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip

| | | Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip I was at a PPA convention and a canon rep was there. Someone asked about Nikon and his response was "Canon doesn't care about Nikon. We're a much larger company. Sony, however, shares the piss out of Canon"
So this should be interesting to see how it goes over time. | | Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip

| | | Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip Sony and Nikon have a long and fruitful history together that goes back to the original D1 camera in 1999. At the moment, Nikon has a hole in it's line-up between the D300 and the D3 that's larger than the Grand Canyon. I'm just guessing, but I can see a full frame Nikon camera with a Sony sensor in it that would be comparable to the Canon 5D, probably around $3,500.00. trust me, either Canon is scared of Nikon or none of them actually care as long as strategy v's income accounts... get past the hype and whom cares what a salesman sais; you've gotta be kidding.
Shutter release, mirror/shutter, lens, image; done/pay me.

| | | Re: Sony announces new FF CMOS chip Maybe a lot of photography hype is just that. But............. as far as I can see, Sony has done what they said they would do. Sony has / is been one of the main players in everything it sets out to do. Audio, TV, point-and-shoot, etc. They delivered the A100 on time. Now they surprised everyone with a full line of DSLR's, {except for the promised "flagship"}. I would venture to say that the promised 25mp pro camera will in fact show up at the last part of the year. I don't think 25mp will be a problem for their Carl Ziess designed lenses. Canon should be scared. If this camera is marginally excellent on most fronts, at 25mp, Canon will have lost it's mp dominance. That "mp swagger" has served Canon well in the past. It will surely be a blow if they lose it.
