Anybody shooting Pentax here?

I see Pentax strangely underrepresented here.

After all, their newest line-up is very good, and their lenses are excellent, too.

I am shooting portraits with the 1,4/50mm, and I am truly stunned by the quality of this lens.

I also like the personality of the cameras, the way the feel, the way they operate.

It's a small company without high end or full frame bodies at this time, and large gaps in their lens offerings, but you'll never know. I like their feel for image quality.

I have the distinct feeling, you get much more photographic quality for your money than with other brands. As if they were focusing well on what's essential.

(Panasonic was in a similar spot years ago, until they came out with the dvx-100, and taught the other companies what good color was. Maybe Pentax needs a breakthrough high end camera body)

Pentax didn't even made it into the list of mentioned camera brands (even Sony did).

How about changing that?

Because I'm sure, that when the new K-20 comes out, we'll have something to discuss.

No doubt, Pentax is a quality line. I've always been impressed with their products. But, the quoted statement above likely tells the story. I almost went for Pentax some years ago, but went with Nikon instead. I now shoot Canon, and there's hardly a need I have that isn't filled by them. It's extremely difficult to compete with such market presence, so it may be that Pentax have decided, as you say, to concentrate on the things that matter. Could be it matters to fewer people.

Re: Anybody shooting Pentax here?

Pentax could become one of the smaller, fine companies that produce highly distinguished gear.

With production technology becoming less dependent on extremely high volume to bring the price down, it could become a niche company, that only produces good quality.

So, I'm sure Pentax is not aiming at press or sports photographers. But for portrait, architecture, music photography, creative photography, they could get very strong there.

It'll all depend on what they will introduce next. That they deliver a follow-up to the K10 this year.
