Re: Fuji S5 vs. Canon 5D question

The original thread was a long time ago. Since then, as posted elsewhere, I've got both S5 & 40D. I agree with almost all of the last 2 posts except:

Noise on my 40D at high ISO is way better than S5. we've shot 1600 & 3200 and 40D is significantly superior. I'd check your settings on 40D Ron OOPS, my error, you said D40 - that means Nikon - yup you're probably right about noise then.

Also, I don't understand the 6 meg vs 12 meg jpg settings. From what I understand, if you are set for highlight recovery, you're on 12 meg only. I can see a difference with highlight recovery on and it's worth it for me on weddings.

I think we'll see improvements in all cameras coming out now in both these areas.

Re: Fuji S5 vs. Canon 5D question

Doug, my bad. I posted that some time ago and did not catch the error until now. I have never owned a D40, but do use the 40D for my long lens stuff. The 40D is the only Canon I own, and I am subject to not knowing how to use it as well as the Nikons. I'm learning though.

The S5 has surprised me on several occasions. As has been mentioned before, jpeg images just don't look like 6mp, image quality is right there with my D2x. The S5 is a good special purpose camera, IMHO.
