| | | Kodak Pro DCS760, 6mp F5, Temptation Waddaya reckon? Kodak Pro DCS760, Digital 6 Mp SLR Nikon F5
I'm so tempted to buy this because I want to see what kind of results I can get from it for internet stuff and models porfolio work, plus it has the 1300 AF module of the F5 (daytime sports?).
The sensor is squarer than Nikons sensors... I still use my D100 for heaps of stuff. I wonder if this camera isn't better?
Really. | | Re: Kodak Pro DCS760, 6mp F5, Temptation

Dont forget its built on the F5, a true work-horse.
You do have to work with Kodaks own Tiff files but they do have some great free software you can download from the Kodak site called Picture Desk.
However, they are heavy, will build your upper body in no time! Have a limited ISO range, not really suited to sports and are battery hungry, so make sure you get a few spares.
Also, make sure you get the charger, can be very expensive and difficult to find used.
Its worth buying as a back-up, when new these were US$25,000.00
I never had the 660 I had the 520 and 560's the version built on the Canon (6xx = Nikon, 5xx = Canon) and I was sorry to see them go, my 520's by the way had over 350,000 shots on them and still looked mint. The last 560 had over 70,000 and I never even cleaned the chip! | | Re: Kodak Pro DCS760, 6mp F5, Temptation

| | | Re: Kodak Pro DCS760, 6mp F5, Temptation I had a 760 at my last job. I really loved the camera for studio use. Yes, it is a battery hog. Heavy and not so fast for sports.
Also, be careful that the batteries do not discharge too far. (usually after sitting unused) The slant top charger will not charge them past a certain point. The good news is that you can jump start them with a 9 volt a couple of paper clips and two leads.
I really like the skin tones from the 760 and photo desk. I really wish I could have Photo Desk for my Nikons. I liked the workflow and results better than any version of Capture.
BTW was using D1 and then D1X at the same time. I did use the 760 some in the field but wound up using the D1/X as a field camera and the 760 mostly in the studio.

| | | Re: Kodak Pro DCS760, 6mp F5, Temptation I have a 760, purchased for next to nothing about a year ago from a local camera dealer, boxed, almost as new (straps still in wrappers etc). It's a super camera, last of Kodak's true titan pro workhorses. It is big and heavy, but built like a tank. Really, its an Nikon F5 with a digital back from Kodak grafted on, so less integrated than newer cameras. Watch out for the internal battery failing (means it won't remember time settings between battery changes a bit irritating), and frosting on the rear screen. Some have been thrashed, but the one I purchased had about 5,000 actuations (you can check the number of actuations in firmware). I have seen a few being sold with 250,000 or more actuations... Also note that, as standard, they should be fitted with an IR filter, but no AA filter. This means nice sharp files but some colour aliasing at resolution extinction. Still one of the best 6mp cameras ever made, with excellent file quality and free Photodesk software. Well worth buying in my view.

| | | Re: Kodak Pro DCS760, 6mp F5, Temptation I currently use two DCS 760 cameras. One in each camera room. I also have three DCS 14NX cameras that have not held up to heavy use. The 760 is a work horse and other then the internal clock which I never use they are doing the job very well. I still love Photo desk software and it ease in processing large numbers of RAW photos.
I also have 4 Nikon DLSR cameras (2 D2X and 2 D200's) which are our location cameras.
If you are asking if you should get the 760, I would say yes as ours keep me in business nicely.

| | | Re: Kodak Pro DCS760, 6mp F5, Temptation I no longer have a DC760 (we now use D3s) but remember that an external acid battery bought at Home Depot for a few bucks really brought this camera to life. It had slightly more voltage (less than one) was rechargeable and lasted for days instead of hours. I had a real performance problem with the original batteries whenever they were not at full charge. Without the internal battery the camera is a lot easier to handle. | | Re: Kodak Pro DCS760, 6mp F5, Temptation | |

can you elaborate on the battery and the connection you used on the 760.
