For your sake, I wish I could remember. It has been several years now.
The camera actually performed better (faster) with the external battery. I used it for over one year with no downsides except a bruise on my hip.
You might try Bestor, digital battery, or Quantum (I have several extra Quantum Turbo batteries but no DC760 adapters).
The plain, cheap, acid battery worked the best and I think I used the external AC adapter cord cut and spliced with wire nuts to attach it. What is the voltage on the internal battery?
