Fuji S3 shutter delays ?

After 6 years of using a DCS 620, I bought a Fuji S3. Both cameras have some great features that I wish I could pick and choose from. Anyway, is it just me, or does the Fuji have some delay in the timing of the shutter. With the Kodak, I'd see what I, press the shutter and get what I want. With the Fuji, it seems like I am always behind the action. I photograph speakers at meetings at microphones, I have always used a flash for fill using AA or manuel flash settings, with the camera not needing to focus. In other words, I have tried to take out all the possiblities that the camera has to please itself before the shutter trips. Am I missing something? I know the kodak was buit on the F5 frame but I am hoping the timing could be better, quicker. Another note is that the camra, purchased mid-March, still ships with version 1.0 firmware. Need to upgrade that that weekend.

Re: Fuji S3 shutter delays ?

I don't think you're imagining it. It has a delay that requires more anticipation than other cameras I've used, including the S2. One thought is that the shutter button has a lot of travel in it before the shutter is actually tripped. I find myself keeping it half way depressed more than I would otherwise in order to close the gap between depressing the shutter and it actually firing.

Re: Fuji S3 shutter delays ?

I have set the focus to the AE/AF Lock button next to the viewfinder. This allows almost instant image capture once the focus is locked. Set it with CSM #9. I think it's the bottom option. It has some real advantages over having to depress the shuttter half way. It was the only way I could shoot action sports. I can depress this button continuously and release the shutter simultaeously.

Re: Fuji S3 shutter delays ?

I can't imagine anyone using the S3 for action sports. Maybe T & I but not action sports. Kinda like using a pitchfork to dig a hole. It will work, but . . .
