Global campaign with dinosaur camera.....

Earlier this summer I shot a campaign for a company called JSR. I worked with a very talented creative director here in Austin. After looking at samples from a Nikon D1x, a Kodak SLR/n, a Fuji S2, and a Canon 1ds, we decided to do the whole shoot with one of our favorite cameras of all time, the DCS 760. The response time is as fast as a film based F5 and the files have a dynamic range that is clearly better than all the others. The SLR/n looked just as good but the focus and response time were not as good. If you are interested in seeing what can be done with antiquated equipment, click on this link. Fun to use the old stuff. All clients satisfied.

Holy Crap! I own an antique!!! Cool!

I think its both a tragedy and quite comical that a camera I bought 4 years ago is now considered an "antique" and/or "old stuff". The fact that it is now also an orphan doesn't help. This 'ole 760 is gonna keep on shooting 'til it dies, then I'll replace it with something much newer, but probably not as good. Hilarious!

Re: Global campaign with dinosaur camera.....

I use this antique daily. This is in our smaller camera room while a older 14N is in the other.

We have two NX's which are our location cameras. When you said antique, I was thinking of a 12x20 banquet camera or 5x7 deardorff.

Re: Global campaign with dinosaur camera.....

Dear Larry,
When I said "antique" I had tongue planted firmly in cheek. But I must say that my client prefers the color we get out of the 760's over all the newer cameras.

Thanks, Kirk

Imagine the embarresment....

.. of course you can always get the cloth off your deardorf or gandolfi and throw it over your head......

The problem is

1. finding silver nitrate to coat your chip
2. getting the flash powder to sync with the shutter - I find using 1/8th or slower helps
3. the contact prints off the ship are quite small, and you've got to leave the "printing out frame" for a couple of hours as the chip is quite opaque

So who will be first with a chip that covers 1/2 plate?

David

P.S. I am Scottish - and scots use irony in their humor!
