max card write speed of the SLR/n?

Before I go out and spend money on uber-schnell CF and SD cards, can anyone answer, in exact terms, how fast of a memory card the SLR/n will write to effectivly.

Anecdotal stories about 32x, 40x, and faster cards is interesting but nothing beats the real numeric specification.

Or, what is the max-write speed of the SLR/n for both CF and SD cards.

I'm really looking for the official word from Kodak on this. Sent an email into tech support a few days ago without response.

Re: max card write speed of the SLR/n?

Hi Chuck,

No, I'm not an official Kodak source. I have both a Lexar 1G 40x "new and improved" and Hitachi 2G and 4G Microdrives for my SLR/n. The quoted speeds in the SLR/c database are very close to my experience. I've tried 80x cards and observed no speed improvement. Talking with Kodak Techies, they agreed that the speed limit is in the I/O chip. I haven't checked recently, but many say that the last firmware update improved write performance on many CFs.

While the CF throughput of the Kodaks are some of the best, the SD performance is sorely lacking. This is again due to the hardware limitations. The chips are set to deliver data byte wide while the SD cards handle data 4 bits wide. Lacking the hardware solution, Kodak had to manipulate the data with software, hence the slow performance.

Conclusion IMHO: CF's faster than 40x won't justify the premium price. I restrict my SD card use to standby.

Re: max card write speed of the SLR/n?

I checked the Lexar 40X amd it wrote at 3.4 MB per second.
The Lexar 80X topped out at 4.3 MB per second.
That's as fast as the SLRn can process it.
