85mm PC Shift Lens

Well I did the axis conversion today and saved a $179 over sending it in. Now I have the shift and tilt on the same axis. First you remove the rear 4 screws and carefully seperate the square housing on the lens. Don't pull too far as the ribbon cables are right there. (at your own risk)

Gently release a little more ribbon from underneath the tape holding them. Turn the square hosing 90 degrees, and get the ribbon out of the way and screw the housing back on. I did an extra procedure of adding a little more tape to keep the ribbon cable out of harms way.

While I was at it, I filed the housing thumb switch down a little so I could then install the lens on the SLR/n body. I am not saying this is approved by anyone but it worked for me. Took the lens outside and banged off a couple of quick shots that looked fine. Now, who says you can't meter in manual mode with this lens..It worked fine and I got a good exposure by adjusting the aperature!

Re: 85mm PC Shift Lens

Hi Steve:

Congratulations on performing your own surgrey on the 85mmPC!! I also disassemblied mine but I was afraid I might damage the ribbon cable so I let Nikon do the work. Price has really jumped - they charged me around $100 several tears ago.

In my previous posts regarding the 85mm PC on 14N body, I am not sure anyone believed my claim (especially Kodak) that the lens could me made to work at infinity focus with full shits and tilts. It sure is a great combination!

Phil

Tears for money

Has parting with money always had such an emotional effect? Climb up on the couch and tell me about your Mothers breasts.

Re: 85mm PC Shift Lens

Thanks Phil;
All seems ok. I have mine set up so that the larger knobs are on the top and the locking knobs on the bottom. I can rotate them the the left as well. BUT it seems that I need to rotate them back to the top before removing the lens.
