Re: Creating slide shows of SLRn .DCR raw files..

[ QUOTE ]
Does "anyone" out there think that Kodak will provide this function in PD some day and replace the Mickey Mouse "Review Selections"(One at a time???)? Provide Quicktime compatibility and export of files to the same?
If 5.0 firmware provides the relief that it is "promised" to do for SLRn and 14nx(14n) owners, hopefully it's time for Kodak to improve their woefully inadequate software too.

[/ QUOTE ]

Above you can read the post I replyed to. I think it is rather much about PD and not only related to slideshows as you now say.

What I ment to say was that I think PD is very good at what it is supposed to do, and I also wanted to make you aware of the fact that your constant bashing of PD, a program that you say you do not use and possibly not know much of is a bit tiresom. Thats all...

Calm Down Carl

HI there:
[ QUOTE ]
I would like to point out something about my post.
1. it's not about PD, or "Review Selection"
2. The post was, "does anyone know of a program to make a slide show with DCR files"

[/ QUOTE ]

But, both Bertil and I were simply answering your jibes at PD being
[ QUOTE ]
'Mickey Mouse

[/ QUOTE ] and
[ QUOTE ]
woefully inadequate

[/ QUOTE ]

With which we (and many others) obviously disagree, if you read my post, I never for a moment suggested that it was suitable for a slide show. My point was that using .dcr files for a slide show didn't seem like the best answer anyway.

Anyone who thinks DCS Photo Desk is "Mickey Mouse" or "Woefully Inadequate" should take a look at the absolute crap that Nikon has for it's cameras. Nikon View and Capture. Both applications are slow and clunky and Nikon even has the nerve to charge $100.00 for Capture. I am probably looking at spending a couple hundred dollars a year to accquire C1 DSLR to get the same functionality and performance I get for "free" with DCS Photo Desk. (I know PD is not free, it's bundled with the price of the camera, but if you spend the money for a Nikon D1-x or a D2-h you are still saddled with Nikon View and Capture.) I think the DCS software has got to be one of my favorite features of the Pro 14n.

I am an amature photographer but my profession is IT, and sadly badly written software that was developed in a vacuum is the norm. I think Kodak deserves some kudos for putting together some really quality software, listening to and implementing the features its customers want, and backing it up with excellent technical support. I work with the Mac version but the Windows version looks nice as well and the software seems to be developed to exploit the strengths of both platforms. And it looks like (based on what the Kodak people have mentioned here) even better things are coming in the future.

Thanks again.

iview media pro 2 reads 14n dcr OK- Are you saying that iview does NOT support the SLR/n ? and I guess that also means 14nx (I think thats what the upgrade is called ?) - thats a bummer ! could someone in the UK give them a ring and ask if they are going to get support for the new kodak file ??

Chris

[/ QUOTE ]

The 14nx DCR files work fine for me with iView Media Pro 2.

carl\'s smilin\' at all the heat..

People that don't use programs on the job (IT included) always seem to know them better than those that use them daily for their work. The Nikon software I've been using with my D1x for several years now, is far superior to the Kodak software(I use both daily). Both Nikon Capture (especially early versions) and Nikon View (yes, there's a slide show), in function, speed, and intuitiveness. Both Mac and PC versions. There is no slower browser/editor (in any world) than PD. And it doesn't have a slide show (Mickey Mouse and woefully inadequate). Even the polite post from Kodak agrees to that observation.
This post has gotten so far off topic (typical) and I'm sorry if I contribute to that.
If anyone knows of a program to create slide shows from DCRs from a SLRn, please reply. If you have another issue, would like to suggest what I should or should not do instead, need to defend PD, feel free to start your own post.

Re: Creating slide shows of SLRn .DCR raw files..

Jon,
To you and your beleaguered cohorts at Kodak, I do love my SLRn and I'm taking some of the best pictures I've ever taken with any camera. Problems aside. I have 3 car magazine covers this month to attest to it. Clearly some things need some work. Hopefully, after the noise and color issues are addressed (with firmware 5 we all hope), you'll have some time to do the needed make over of CM and PD and add some needed features, speed, and a more user friendly interface. And a slide show (-;

Presumably this is verifiable fact, rather than just your opinion?

I've used both as well, and I would disagree with almost everything you say - especially with respect to speed . But I guess I must be wrong.
