Re: Creating slide shows of SLRn .DCR raw files..

Does "anyone" out there think that Kodak will provide this function in PD some day and replace the Mickey Mouse "Review Selections"(One at a time???)? Provide Quicktime compatibility and export of files to the same?
If 5.0 firmware provides the relief that it is "promised" to do for SLRn and 14nx(14n) owners, hopefully it's time for Kodak to improve their woefully inadequate software too.

sorry but I can not hold back this time.... Whats so Mickey mouse with it? it´s very functional for a Pro to use when selecting what images to process and which to delete..

What is it with you people as soon as something is not working as you would like it to in your often rather small sector of the world the program you got for your camera is useless??

You have the tumbnails, you have the review function but you want something fancy .... with bells and whistles.. personally I think PD works well, and I am not using it show of some fancy effects but just to show my images....

/b

Ps am I the only one perfecting and processing my images in the computer as I used to do in the darkroom in the dark ages before sending them to my clients?

Re: Creating slide shows of SLRn .DCR raw files..

do you feel better?

"You have the tumbnails, you have the review function but you want something fancy .... with bells and whistles".

Yes, some of us desire the "bells and the whistles", and some will settle for anything. Some can use a point and shoot, and some need more. This post is for those of us that want the Bells, or at least the basics of a SLIDE SHOW PROGRAM. Others may ignore it.

Let's see, "Review Selection"-note, this does not say "SLIDE SHOW"
1. You have to advance the "SLIDE SHOW" manually, each "slide", one at a time. This is not a slide show in most worlds. Small (like the USA) or otherwise.
2. No export function of the "slide show" to any format so you can send it to clients for their review. You must first convert all selected files to another format and use another program, like iView.
3. no transitions, no timing of "slides"
4. no music can be added
5. a "pro" can surely select from the "Contact Sheet" which images to edit and throw away.
6. Why does it lack these features? IT'S NOT A SLIDE SHOW PROGRAM (Note the subject of this post).

I'm sure the lack of all these features doesn't bother some (and they're free to resist comment) that, for what ever reason, don't want to use the browser to do what "Review Selection" does. But if you want to sit back and see your work, without working at it, one selection after another, if you want to send it to your clients, it's disfunctional as a "SLIDE SHOW PROGRAM".

"Ps am I the only one perfecting and processing my images in the computer as I used to do in the darkroom in the dark ages before sending them to my clients?"

Say again, clearly? Using the computer to edit and "perfect" images?? What a concept! I thought the computer was for email. And slide shows.
You Pros got all the answers. Just not this one.

to all other that contributed info on this post, I apologize for using the "Mickey" thing. I like Mickey, just did a shoot right near his house, and meant no insult. It was written with a (-; Sometimes I express myself too... exuberantly.

We do not consider review selection a substitute for a slide show. A real slide show features have been on the to-do list for a while, but it hasn't made to the must-have for a release yet.

Horses for Courses

HI Carl
Well, I agree with Bertil.
It doesn't seem to me that .DCR files are the right format to present slide shows to client's and others. The files almost always need some post processing, and it seems to me that for that reason alone a slide show feature in Photodesk isn't the right answer.

I find the review section extremely useful for it's obvious purpose; for selecting the images you want to keep, and for removing those you don't . Most slide show programs don't actually have this tagging feature anyway.

IMHO the photodesk software is excellent, and provides all the tools needed to develop a sensible workflow with .DCR files - slide show functionality has always been the domain of different programs (what about moaning about the lack of a decent slide show facility in photoshop?).

Only addition I WOULD like is the ability to use the zoom dialog box when using the review feature.

kind regards
jono slack

Re: Creating slide shows of SLRn .DCR raw files..

while I think it's wonderful for you, Jono and Berti, to do things the way you feel is the only correct way to do them, I would like to point out something about my post.
1. it's not about PD, or "Review Selection"
2. The post was, "does anyone know of a program to make a slide show with DCR files"

Just in case I want to break the rules, watch a slide show of my shots when I get them home, by myself or to share. Some of my shots are good enough to look at, and share, right out of the camera. Raw!
