Canon D2000 \"Freeze\"

I use Canon D2000s and have them updated to the latest firmware - I also use them with two Lexar 160s at a time (one in each slot.)

I have noticed that when deleting images the camera sometimes "freezes." The menu on the back LCD is unresponsive, and turning the camera off doesn't work... my solution is to pull the battery out and slap it back in after a few seconds.

No data has been lost and everything always goes back to normal - I was just wondering if anyone had encountered similar occurences... I've also have "Bad Card" error messages once in awhile.... I take the card out, put it back in and all works fine... I have of course reformatted the cards to try to fix this problem.

The cameras are less than six months old, and have never been dropped or gotten wet... I am wondering if this is an isolated incident or if any of you have experienced similar occurences..

Thanks,

Vince

Re: Canon D2000 \"Freeze\"

How long does the camera freeze for? Is the little "CARD" symbol on the back of the camera flashing while this is happening? You should not turn the camera off or remove the battery while the symbol is flashing. My DCS520s occasionally take a while to delete items, but never more than 30 seconds. These cameras are quite amazing technology, and turning them off and then on again to solve a problem is not to be recommended.

Neil.

Vince,

Using the Kodak DCS-520, I have experienced the same problems from time to time. Not sure about the association with deleting images, but I resort to the same fix. For what it is worth, the Nikon D1 does this also.

Re: Canon D2000 \"Freeze\"

Neil, It's happened to me before. Just be PATIENT and WAIT!! NEVER pull out the battery if the "card" icon is flashing! It takes some time before it deletes the images. But if this is happening to your card, it means you haven't been formatting it for a long time and you need to do it. It's also better to delete or format cards with a fresh battery and not a weak one.

FYI, the card icon is NOT flashing when this happens... in fact nothing is reacting...neither the menu buttons nor anything else... it's always OK to wait when you can, but this tends to happen when I do quick edits in middle of baseball games - and I can't afford to just sit there and watch a camera that appears to be completely frozen...

Either way, it was good to hear that this has happened to others.

Cheers,

Vince
