Remote Camera Control App for iPhone

I just heard OnOne software, the people who maintain Genuine Fractals (one of my personal favorite Photoshop plugins) now have an iPhone app available for controlling a dSLR remotely.

This thing looks really cool! Getting a graphic image preview and being able to tweak all the camera functions directly from a hand-held remote seems like a step beyond anything we have now.

onOne Software - DSLR Remote for Canon DSLR Cameras & iPhone

I can't think why this would have to be iPhone only, as the iPod can communicate with wifi systems as well.

Also, I don't know whether it can work with any of the integrated wifi camera gadgets. They do say they'll have Nikon support in addition to Canon soon.

By the way, I have no business affiliation with OnOne.

-Noel

Re: Remote Camera Control App for iPhone

Your camera still needs to be tethered to a computer for this to work though.

Yes, I've got it. Tried it. And it does work.

It gives LiveView on your iPhone which is useful for setting up for self-portraits but other uses?

It may enable you to be closer to your clients if you are shooting a lot of static shots, like at a dance or something.

You could immediately show the results to the client and re-shoot if necessary.

But it would be difficult to work with this away from a WiFi environment unless you could set up an AdHoc network.

The new iPhone 3.0 OS release (due this Friday) will make it much easier for developers to create cables and gadgets that attach to the docking port at the bottom of iPhones and iPod Touches. Photography accessories seem inevitable.

This works on the iTouch as well. I have it and found no problems running the software. It just requires the separate software to set up a ad hoc network if your laptop isn't working off a wireless network. On mine I just log into my wireless network at home and it all functions with no problems.
