new website testing

I'm looking for people to test my new site before I take it live. Could you please click here and then let me know (through the comment page, or here on the forum), if there's anything that I've missed? I'd especially like to know if the links work in different browsers (in the "On Display, Workshops, and Links pages). Any other comments would be most appreciated. Essentially I'm concerned with basic functionality.

Thanks,
Curtis

Re: new website testing

Hi Curtis,

It's pretty slick. I'm not a fan of sites that resize the browser window and hide the addressbar, and this resize was to full screenwidth, even though most of that space was not used in the resulting flash show. The site looks pretty good and I couldn't find any glaring errors, the links also work fine.

I could find a link for the music, but not a copyright notice for it, or any note that it is used with permission/license. I'm sure it is, just noting this omission.

Hope it goes well for you,

Mike.

Yes, I spoke with the artist and received her permission to use the music. I'll look at the wording to better explain the copyright/permission issue you raised. Thanks for noting this.

Re: new website testing

I noticed that the first images that appear in the categories of Portrait and Wedding are not the best of the series. Under the portrait collection we see a couple in b&w where the woman is clearly in focus and the man is out of focus. When I click on Wedding the first image I see looks like a white version of Big Bird.

My suggestions:

Sometimes less is more, trim down the number of photos to a few of your best.

Include a personal profile that gives information about your training and professional experience.

While the workshop link works, the description is lacking. Include a copy of the finished product or something other than an empty table.

I didn't think about that. About the training I've received, the majority has been self taught with very little formal training. So I'm not sure how I would word such a statement that would instill confidence in potential clients that I know what I'm doing.

When you say the description is lacking, do you mean the description on my website, or the description you read when you click on the more details link?

About the picture, yes I agree with you. The table was meant initially as a placeholding image until I found something better. I agree that images of the finished product would be a much better way to go.

This was a pen that was used at a guest book signing. My intention was to show a "lighter" side.

Thanks Mike. Yes, I agree with you, this isn't my preferred way to go. But as with anything you purchase you have to take the good with the bad. In this case this full-size window issue is something I'm willing to live with for now. The support for the web company I'm going with seems to be pretty open to suggestions, and I've raised this issue with them already in hopes that an update to the web software at some point will give users the ability to open my website in the same window they are in when they arrive at my landing/splash page. Nevertheless, I think I will specifically ask if it's possible to include the addressbar in the main site window.
