| Re: Interesting places to shoot in SF/Bay Area Tough assignment, since the trademark shots of the SF Bay Area include such obvious things as the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Golden Gate Park, Cable Cars, etc. (Otherwise, how do you know it's SF?)
You might consider shooting from the top of Mount Diablo, either morning or evening. You could get a sunset or sunrise shot of the Golden Gate, which would be spectacular. (Bring a long lens). Time of year is important, because in the summer, you would be looking at low cloud decks moving in through the Gate. Spring and Fall are the best bets, as the coast is usually clear.
Consider taking one of the ferry tours from Fisherman's Wharf, for different views of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz.
Wine country shots are pretty standard, but if you go to, for instance, the Livermore-Amador Valley, instead of the Napa Valley, it's likely to be less traveled and busy, but still has more than 50 wineries available. This also will give you access to Altamont Pass and the "thousands" of windmills in the wind farms on the eastern slopes of the Coastal Range.
If you shoot in the spring, (like right now, for instance), the hills are green. After March, the hills turn brown and stay that way the rest of the year. (Or you could consider them Golden).
That pretty well exhausts the "different" requirement. After that, you're back to Cable Cars, Golden Gate, etc.
