This month, in addition to our usual photo contest, we will be having a second major contest. This one is easy and doesn't require you to dig through your photos for a possible prize winner.

This Pro Photo Contest is to see who can help the site the most by refering the most people to the site over the next 3 weeks. The process has been greatly simplified since we last spoke.

Now, all that is required is to paste your own unique link wherever you think people interested in Pro Photo Home might be most likely to find it. There is no need to keep up with a discount code. All referrals are automatically credited to you upon new member registration. Place your links in your personal or business blog, your website, an email to friends, etc. We also now have an automated invite system. After making your invites and pasting your links, tune in daily to the results on the new referrals page. See if you can beat out your fellow members in this friendly competition of marketing skill. Oh, and did I mention, you can aslo get paid for referrals if you like?

It seems like the emphasis has shifted from Photography to website promotion. The forum members have been contributing to the monthly photo competition on a regular basis. It seems like the Moderators/Forum Operators have had waning interest in the operation of the Photo competition. Timelines have not been adhered to relating to starting/ending and voting. Winning submissions should be announced.

What happened to the previous photo competition results?

In my opinion, the website promotion should be a separate entity from the already ailing monthly photo competition.

Also Drew, I highly doubt an iPod is going to be much of a motivator for members here.

I agree that the photo competitions have not been kept up properly. However, that is my fault, not the moderators, as I have not asked any of them to be responsible for this area.

Perhaps I will see if any of them would be able to take over this area to assure more timely photo competitions.

We could use another moderator. What about it Jerry?

Scott: You may be right. Although, I figured that someone would at least have a niece or nephew that might like to have one.

A new MKIII or D3 would probably be a much bigger draw I'm sure. However, the site just cannot afford a prize that large at this time.

I would hope that now that it has been made so easy people would just do the referring without the need of external motivators. But, after a year and a half of asking for that to happen, I know that is not going to happen on a large scale. However, some have gone out of their way and I do appreciate their efforts. I recognize that everyone's time is valuable.

Jerry: Regarding the emphasis on website promotion over the last four or five months:

I don't know if you recall, but we have basically ceased all other professional photography work to focus on the further development of this website. While the site continues to grow at a healthy pace it will need to grow a good bit more in terms of revenue for us to be able to continue to solely focus on the site. The sales pushes have represented a concerted effort to "push the plane up to the next altitude." We have risen higher, but we have not yet reached cruising altitude. If we had, then I would be able to focus almost all of my time on reviews and competitions, etc.

Gross monthly revenue is sitting about where it was 6 months ago: $3,000 to $4,000 month before any expenses. Our family cannot long survive on this amount of revenue. Others may be able to do so. But, we cannot.

This does not mean that we are in some sort of crisis mode or anything. I still have long term faith in the overall growth and direction of the site. It just means that I may have decided to make the jump to full time status too quickly and will need to go back to doing other part time work. Which means that the site will do fine, but I will not be able to spend as much time doing reviews and trying to grow the site. It will just have to grow more organically, as it did during the first year or so.

Not trying to make anyone feel bad. And, again, there is no reason for concern for the overall health of the site. In fact, the increased focus on the site has definitely helped. Without a doubt, I believe the site is stronger overall than it has ever been.

Becoming full time on the site over the last four or five months has just not helped enough to continue down the path of full time focus for myself and my family. This is an error in judgment on my part, no one else.
