Help Needed Mac & PC. New Radio & TV Station Feature

I am working on getting some convenient background music onto the site. Would a few people mind testing the new "Radio & TV" link in the navbar and let me know how it works for you. You will need to leave the radio stations page open for the music to continue playing. You can then open a new window for prophotohome to continue surfing. I tried to add it as a second (popup) window but too many browsers block the page with the built in popup blocker.

You can add your own radio/ tv stations as long as they will play on windows media player. You can rate stations and create your own favorites list. If you already have some favorite streaming radio or tv stations you can usually start streaming the station then right click on the player and choose "properties" to get the url you need to add.

Here are two websites for locating more streams:
Radio-Locator
Mike's Radio World - Listen live online to over 5000 radio stations

I especially would like to hear from those on Mac with Firefox and Safari. I do not have this platform to test with.

Hopefully, it will pull up Quicktime and play. If it doesn't work for you on Mac would you mind installing this small app, closing your browser, relaunching and then letting me know how it works for you. This app allows quicktime to automatically stream windows media files. It is the top download (the green one).

Flip4Mac - Downloads

Thanks,
Drew

Works fine with my 20"iMac core duo 2.0, Safari Version 2.04, OSX Version 10.4.10

A background picture would be nice. It shows a blank(white) quick time window.

With Firefox Version 2.0.0.6 it takes less time to load and there is no window (just the audio bar)

Re: Help Needed Mac & PC. New Radio & TV Station Feature

Thanks, Jerry.

With windows media player it plays fractal animations while music is playing. Is it possible to set QT to have those type animations? Of course, if you're streaming tv it should show the video. Although, the tv part part is really secondary. I'm more interested in the radio feature.

If you click on the BBC News clip does it show the video in QT?

And finally, what happens after you install the flip4mac mini app?

Thanks, again for your help.

Anyone else running this on older power pc/ OS X platforms?

Actually, I didn't scroll down to see the selection area the first time I tried it.
The BBC news clip does play with quicktime.
I have had flip for mac installed for about a year now (latest beta version) but the Safari default is Quicktime. Flip for Mac is the default for any Windows Media Files.

Thanks, Jerry.

The idea is that over time, besides music stations people might have photo oriented streams they would like to add so we could have a reference library of photo podcasts/ videocasts. People can then rate these channels, favorite them, etc.

What do you think?

Do most people already have this flip4mac app installed.

If someone doesn't would they let me know how it behaves?

Re: Help Needed Mac & PC. New Radio & TV Station Feature

Hi.

I have an intel Mac, firefox, latest updates, no Flip4Mac, and the page doesn't work. There is a header across the top asking to load missing plugins. Clicking the button results in a plugin install screen for Flip4Mac.

Safari also complains and offers to open http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/MediaPlayer/ to download a 'plugin' That page has Flip4Mac 'quicktime components' buried in it amongst WMP downloads for various Windows platforms and Mac.

I've left it Flip4Mac free for now, in case you want more testing. It'd be nice if it was possible to play this stuff out of the box, but I don't hold much hope for that...
