Those giant plastic lens hoods are miserable things. They add 50% to the size of you lens, make it impossible to get in and out of your bag, and are constantly falling off. The other problem is that when you have a filter on the lens, since the hoods are attached to the lens barrel, you lose about half the coverage.

What I use is the old fold down rubber unit from my Mamiya 180mm lens. It's way more compact, and is just as effective as the big plastic one I had on my 70-200mm.

The thing is I have become a proud owner of a AFS 80-200 but without the original hood , I have a weird twist to see if everything is complete and original .
But.....let's first see if a HB17 is available somewhere on our earth
