Nikon Coolpix P6000 So Close but yet So FAR!

I scratch my head a bit when learning that Nikon is offering a terrific looking point and shoot with RAW file capability but NOT using the Nikon NEF RAW format, instead choosing the Windows Vista .NRW raw image format.

This is truly the point and shoot I've been waiting for from Nikon, but I'm not going through windows vista to deal with a proprietary RAW format that cannot be processed with Capture NX on a Mac.

Do any of our software engineers or computer wizzards know about this NRW format and if it plays well with any of the image processors that pros use, i.e. Camera Raw, Lightroom, Aperture, Capture One etc? Or do you have to go through Vista to process?

Thanks!

M

Thanks Martin, it does boggle the mind! I was hoping someone here with more software engineering savvy than myself would know how to crack the NRW code!

I can dream. . . right?

The NRW can undoubtedly be cracked, but why bother?

Rather, Nikon should be punished by the marketplace. Of course, countless innocents will buy the P6000 (essentially at random, since that's how the digicam market works) and never know the difference. The essential thing is for the cognoscenti to pillory Nikon as loudly as possible in hopes of shaming them of their arrogance, condescension and stupidity.

And to think I was just on the verge of forgiving Nikon for their past sins for delivering the D3 and D700!
