D300 CL & CH fps modes

I've got my CL set to 3 frames/sec., but I can't see, hear, feel any difference between it and CH. It seems to me that CH was a lot faster when I got the camera and for some reason now is quite slow... closer to the 3fps of the CL setting, nothing near 6-7 fps. Is there a custom setting somewhere that I may have changed in error to affect this?

It also seems that I used to get faster fps when shooting with my SB-800 - and now it seems slow there too.

Any ideas?

Assuming its at a constant speed for a continuous release of many frames, i.e. not a stutter effect from bracketing, the first thing that comes to mind is the 2.5 fps default frame rate restriction for shooting in 14 bit mode. This would affect both the CL and CH speeds. If it's not that, then it could be other restrictive parameters like High ISO Noise Reduction, Active D-Lighting, etc. that can affect the buffer write speed. But it sure sounds like the 14 bit fps restriction.
