D3 firmware 2.0

It is out.
I have installed it.
I have tested it.
The picture quality is still absolutely awesome.
What is new or better about it?

Hey Roger,
I think you said somewhere that you own and shoot with both the D3 and D300 as back up. Correct?
At any rate, do you find that the IQ, from the D3 is that much better and is there no comparison?

The D3 is so much better in every way for our use that I traded my D300 in on a second D3. I actually prefer the D2Xs to the D300 and would buy another D3 before I would get a D700.

Re: D3 firmware 2.0

Hi Roger,

The one complaint I had for my D3 was using the crop mode and having the 5/4 option included. This upgrade now gives me the choice of FF, High Speed Crop or FF, High Speed Crop, 5/4. I shoot a lot of sports with a prime lens and appreciate having the D3 work the same as my D2X's without having to double check that I mistakenly went to 5/4 mode. This alone made the upgrade worth it for me.

Re: D3 firmware 2.0

Quite a few wedding photographers have reported very sluggish AF response times in single shot mode with the camera very slow to lock focus and missed shots as a result when they started using the 2.0 firmware and have gone back to the prior A & B rev levels as a result.

Maybe because I never use single shot mode. I do not have any AF problem

Re: D3 firmware 2.0

I'm with Roger, I never use Single Focus mode. I use Continuous mode with the AF-ON button to acquire focus. If I need to lock focus and reframe, I release the AF-ON button and shoot. I find the D3 one of the most accurate focusing cameras I have ever used.
