Re: Nikon D700

I wonder if it's any more real than the 5D Mark VW. As in Vapor Ware Kind of sounds like that might the target Nikon has in mind.

Re: Nikon D700

I'm curious if Nikon has sold enough D3 bodies by now to let this baby out.

Over at DPreview the usual speculators have gone quiet since this news was leaked so I'm inclined to beleive this is a real camera.

Hi Folks,

now it's not more a rumor .. it was announced yesterday ...
will see if it's as good as D3 in image quality as far as what I have read.
I'm still waiting for a D3x .....

Re: Nikon D700

Interesting food for thought in this new Reichmann article about the market positioning and implications of the D700.

If I was starting from scratch, I'd probably be jumping all over this new camera.

Re: Nikon D700

nice read,

Quote, "Master stroke or miguided" Unquote.

I'd bet good money that most photographers would happily buy either D3 or D700 if money wasn't an issue most photographers would buy both. I'd certainly own both if I could and I probably will eventually "OR" I'm not sure when the next camera will be announced so I may wait and see if the waiting was worthwhile. Then there's the lens lust.

I did put myself on the list at Nikon on Broadway here in Sydney for the D700. I want one. I don't really need the D3. I already have the battery grip with my D300.

I kinda resent being labelled a pro-sumer because I own a D300 and D200. I have had almost every kind of Nikon body I bought and sold all of them on e-bay at one time or another. I just got AU$701 for my D2h body with two good batteries and charger AND the 28-70 3.5-4.5D lens (not enough but its sold).

I'll take photos for money. No-one asks me what camera I use. I was asked recently if my file size was big enough for a billboard and once again I stupidly considered renting a medium format camera. Even though the Mamiya 6x4.5 AFD111111111111111 offers a crop factor of 1.1 it's still an outdated ZD 400 iso (at best) back so
I can shoot in raw then upsize a TIFF... "yeah I can give you a big file for that billboard"!

With the advent or what's now the "mass production" of digital cameras everyone's a photographer and it's eating away at the kind of photographers who have been understudies or graduates... photographers who have studied their trade are not considered in favour because marketing done properly by wannabe's works well enough.

"Genius" I say for Nikons bottom line. everyone can have a very good image maker then we can all fight over what actuall work there is to do.

even my ACMP offered a night in Sydney for me to bring along some of my clients for a beer? and other members to bring along their's.

I've hung around with bikers for a long part of my life, these days I'm more reserved due to the responsibilities of keeping a family.

Bullshit still smells like bullshit; directed at my ACMP for trying to sniff out what I'm doing and if there's any money there for them. The AIPP is no better.

The best tools we've ever had makes us part of the lot these days.

And while I'm raving... Nikons color still kiks the poo out of Canons. Always has even with the D2h disaster. I've got photos to compare just ask me and I'll show you.

I'm glad Nikon pulled their finger out and kicked out some stiff shirts. Bring on the future now! At 42 I'm generation X but this is the Y generation... if you can't see it... you're just old.

Bill.

Re: Nikon D700

Hey hey hey!
Well folks! it is not a hoax, I have just returned from Adorama in NYC, where there was to my surprise a Nikon Rep, standing behind the counter with a real live and working demo of the D700. It is everything that it is suppose to be cracked up to be and possibly more. I will of course, wait for all the test to be done by real working pros, before I plop my money's down on this one, but from the looks of the thing and the test shots I was able to make in the store, it is everything that the D3 is and more, in a smaller body. In fact it it slightly larger than the D300, and slightly heavier too, but at 2/3 the cost. It will supposedly have a market value of $3,000 once out and will also accept the MB-D10 drive and batteries. I will definately be picking one of these up soon. The rep told me end of July it will be out. Adorama is accepting orders now for it I was told too. Wish I had taken a picture of it to show you guys on my Black Berry for you non believers. To think I just bought a D300 just one week ago today. I still have till today to return it. Sitting here thinking about it. Although, I could use it as my back up and get a D700 as the primary camera. hmm! decisions decisions.
