Re: Nikon D3!

Yes, I agree with other comments, the D3 is an incredible good camera in 35 mm format; no visible noise up to 1600 ISO, large screen, battery capacity for 1500-3000 shots, AF very efficient, ease of use aso.. Depending of what you do of course, only the Canon MkIII, but in other application area, could be compared. Price is reasonnable for this PRO camera.

Re: Nikon D3!

The D3 one-ups the 1D Mark III in that it's a "full frame" camera. I think the noise and "image quality" issues are largely subjective.

If it were actually possible to purchase a D3 from dealer stock somewhere (back-ordered everyfrickinwhere), I'd give tihs camera some serious consideration. As I've said before, I would not "switch" - this is this first Nikon DSLR that's ever come close to making me think about buying a Nikon - but if I had no equipment at all and needed a pro DSLR, it might be a different story. If anything, I might get one as a foray into Nikon land.

Re: Nikon D3!

Canon only for 7 years. The D300 is good, but the D3 is by far the best out of Nikon. A very nice cam. It does make one think of switching. I kind of wanted to keep it a little too much after the review.

Now what about the 20+ mp version? How much difference will there be in cost?

Re: Nikon D3!

I totally understand your hesitation to give back the camera! As for 20MP, at what point does the real winner of the MP race become the HD manufacturers? When I bought D2X's the increase in mp from the Fuji S2's that we had in the studio was most noticed in the almost immediate need to triple our RAID.

Re: Nikon D3!

I think EricC summed it up pretty good.

I have owned WELL over a dozen different Nikon bodies starting with a FG in '86...including several F and numerous DLSRs since the D100 in '02. The the D3 is a paradigm shift in cameras and is the most significant upgrade in a camera I have ever seen. It is hard to justify upgrading camera after camera...and while I am sure there will be other cool cameras...I can't image a more significant improvement as this...at least anytime soon. Now, when they have a Holographic Recorder...that is when I will get REALLY excited!
