D300 teathered - Other than Camera control Pro?

Hi:- I have been shooting with Nikon capture control 4 with a D100.
Now that I have the D300 I can't use Capture control 4.
I am set up to take the photo and have it show full screen on a 19" LCD as soon as it is in the computer. After all the photos of one dog are taken the photos are sent through 5 Minute photo onto the viewing stations.
I don't know what other ways I can control the camera other than camera control pro. Is there another way of doing it.
I can stay with Nikon View and Camera control but I am asking if there are other programs or workflow that can do this as well.

Thanks
Chris

The D3 and D300 require the new Camera Control Pro 2. Nikon says registered users of Camera Control Pro can upgrade for a discounted price.

Re: D300 teathered - Other than Camera control Pro?

There is no other solution as smooth as Nikon Camera Control [in this case the current version]. Since controlling the camera completely, that is all aspects of it, from the computer requires deep knowledge of the soft- and hardware APIs, Nikon would need to publish these for other programmers. This could either be as a technical paper or an SDK.

Unfortunately Nikon is not too eager to publish their "business secrets". AFAIK, the SDK available is only for reading/writing of NEF - and even that only partially [complete read, writing of metadata].

Re: D300 teathered - Other than Camera control Pro?

Thanks Gents:- I can't upgrade because I have Nikon Capture control 4, this version is too old.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and purchase it.

Thanks again.

Cheers
Chris

Re: D300 teathered - Other than Camera control Pro?

If you're using a Mac, one option would be to use Image Capture -- it it bundled with the OS, and while it doesn't have the cool features of CCP 2 it will let you trip the shutter and get the images from the camera. At a very good price.

Bibble (the raw converter) also supports a limited flavor of tethering. You operate the camera as if it were shooting to a card, but Bibble copies each image to the computer as it is shot. If you don't need the remote control features or the ability to configure the camera that CCP 2 provides, Bibble is worth checking out. Bibble is also much faster at transering images (compared to CCP 2).
