The Mitsubishi group is a keiretsu rather than a conglomerate, so it's a little more complicated than that. These are groups of Japanese companies that purchase interlocking shares of one another, making it nearly impossible for anyone to successfully execute a hostile takeover of any of the member companies (as combined the group owns enough shares in each company to maintain control, and they are generally fiercely loyal to one another).

As such, there isn't really much of a centralized command structure as individually no member controls enough shares of the other firms to exert direct control. The member companies generally work cooperatively (often sharing resources), and there are certainly firms that are stronger than others in the grouping - however there is no direct chain of command in the traditional sense.

Re: Nikon / Sony connection?

Thom made a prediction that Nikon was going to come out with a 14mp camera, {before pma}. That 14mp camera is indeed the A350 Sony. They {Sony} have also announced a full frame 24.6 mp camera by the end of the year. I think most people {including me} thought that sensor would be in a Nikon body. Could it be that Nikon has seen the need to make it's own sensors?
