D300+SB800+12-24 lens

Weird !!!
with the above combo, the infra red focus assist light on the SB800 doesn't lit when the lens is on 12 mm to somewhere between 15-18 mm
Give me a panic attack because of it
I've asked my friend to test with his set, same thing !!!
a Nikon's glitch ?
Already emailed Nikon for answer.

With D80, it's working fine, all the way of the lens' range

I wonder how is it on D3 and D200 ?
Anybody could give it a try ?

Just checked my D200/12-24/SB800.

It worked fine on Single AF through the full range. No problems I could find.

Even though the AF assist light will come on in some conditions (as you describe) it is not effective or accurate and is now disabled to prevent focus errors. Thanks

I hope Nikon will make a firmware upgrade that will allow me turning this ON/OFF by means of menu setting

Hey Michael, thanks for tracking this down; I've been going nuts trying to make it work on my D300 also. I hope they fix it soon, it really needs it in the dark.

Hi Ken, I feel your pain. In the mean time, I was thinking about using D80 when the condition requires it. IMO, Nikon should have try to fix the problem, rather than killing it

What about the AF assist light on the SB-800? Perhaps that will work better than the on camera light.
