Re: D300+SB800+12-24 lens

Doug, read my first post. The reason for this thread is because the assist light won't lit at focal length of 12 to around 17

Re: D300+SB800+12-24 lens

So neither light will light? I was wondering if the one on the SB-800 would work. You have to set some configuration options (IIRC) before it will take over from the one on the body.

Re: D300+SB800+12-24 lens

In the SB800 manual on page 62 it says usable focal length of the assist light is 24-105mm so it may be intentional. I don't have the D300 or 12-24 so I can't test anything.

How many focus points are you using? If you use the center group it could make a difference.

Another possibility is issues with not using the flip down wide angle diffuser but I would not think it would impact the assist light.
