D1H and 8x10's

I have been using the original D1 for over 15 months. It gives me excellent 8X10 prints. I have made 13x19 and 16X20 prints without any quality problems. If the D1 can do it I'm sure the D1H can do as well or better. normrose@worldnet.att.net [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

I always have felt that the sweet spot of the D1 was the 8x10. I have printed hundreds of them and larger up to 11 x 17. The H has the same res. so I would feel that you should be fine.

I agree with the other opinions you've gotten on 8x10 prints. At that size you can get a great print from any of the 3 cameras. It is more work to get it from the original D1 since you have more color & flash issues to work through, but the D1X and D1H are both no-brainers.

I'm assuming that I'll start to see differences with my D1X prints at larger sizes, but at 8x10 they're pretty much indistinguishable from the D1H.

Thanks for everyone's input. I do have some nice 8x10's from my D1. I haven't had my D1x long enough to really get a good feel for it. If an 8x10 from a D1x next to the same 8x10 from a D1h are virtually the same then the decision is an easy one for me. I just didn't want to lose quality at that size. I guess I'll get the D1h and do some of my own expirements [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img] Does anyone else happen to have identical photos from the 2 different cameras?

I just ordered a D1H to replace my D1X and am having second thoughts about it...

The D1H samples I've seen online look good but I'm really concerned about 8x10 print quality over the D1X. Does anyone have both of these cameras and have you tried the same shot with both and printed them at 8x10? I guess I'm hoping that the D1H will be as good as the D1X up to 8x10 and I can pick up the extra Frame Speed and Buffer. I do not want to sacrafice image quality up to 8x10 though. I also don't crop much so thats not a concern either.

Any insights or comments would be appreciated.

I have done the test! To 10x8 you cannot really see any big differences between the H and X in terms of quality (resolution) being any better, you probably find that the file type you use will makes more of a difference in overall quality.
